Episode 41 – Garden Festival Special

Running for one week from the 2nd of July is one of Croatia’s best kept secrets; The Garden Festival.  Barrientos & DVRS have been heading to this musical paradise now for three years and focussed in on this gem of a festival for a Special Episode of LAVA LAVA.

For this episode, DVRS curated three special mixes with some of the best tracks from this years festival to capture the atmosphere & emotion of The Garden.  While at the festival, he also managed to catch up with three of Bristol’s finest House music producers & DJ’s; Amos of Waifs & Strays and the duo of Jake Martin & Matthew Lambert a.k.a Outboxx.

Our Garden Festival special kicks off focussing on some of the mellow vibes of the sun-kissed afternoons with tracks from White Lamp, Lovebirds & Damiano Von Erckert.  Without doubt, sunset at the Garden Festival is one of the highlights of every day there as the mood turns and the energy picks up, soundtracked throughout the festival by Chic, Frankie Knuckles and Crazy P.  Each of the seven after parties had their own atmosphere and personality, some of the highlights were picked out with standout tracks from Eats Everything, KiNK and, of course, Midland.  Rounding the show off is the three tracks that soundtracked the sunrise at the Futureboogie afterparty (widely-agreed as one of the best of the festival)

As we chilled out in the on-site restaurant and had a blether before the Magic Door Boat Party, Amos summed up the general vibe of the Garden Festival perfectly:

“You know what it’s going to be; it’s a lot of craziness but a lot of chilled time if you want it.  I think it’s consistency is one of it’s strong points.  You know it’s going to be a certain level of quality in the production, in the music you hear and in the artists you get.  It’s just pure quality the whole way down, it’s a really interesting and diverse line-up”

Jake and Matt caught up with DVRS ahead of their set at Barbarellas for the Futureboogie Afterparty. They were so stoked about the set that they gave us a sneak peak at what they had in store for the early hours of the morning:

“We’re so excited, we’ve had the bags open and picking out tunes, arguing about it and putting them back in the bag… We always try and cover all the bases – play a bit of disco, a bit of house, a bit of techno…  I think with this set we’re taking the opportunity to get some of our Balearic records out.  Some Adriatic vibes!”
