Episode 43: Sound Signature

After 42 episodes of Lava Lava, Barrientos & DVRS decided it was time to focus in on, arguably, one of America’s best record labels; Sound Signature.  Founded by the one and only Theo Parrish way back in ‘97, the record label has been showcasing the sounds of Detroit and Chicago style house music for 17 years.  With such an essential label we decided to focus in on some real stunning tracks from Marcellus Pitman, Specter, Jay Daniel and the music project The Rotating Assembly.

The Residents Mix kicked off with a tip of the hat to the influence of the American house styles with the latest release on Kerri Chandler‘s Madhouse as well as some more smooth house vibes from Hollis Parker, Pedro Costa & Mermaids.  We played out a ton of fresh music from the promos sent into our mailboxes, including some stunners from the likes of Oberst & Buchner, Drew Hill and Berkson & What.

The Top 5 for the fortnight was a contentious choice for Barrientos & DVRS, with some potent promos taking on some of the freshest releases.  Kicking proceedings off is a track from British-based producer 80’s child on Midnight Riot, followed swiftly by the sun-kissed track from Ridney on the Great Stuff imprint.  The big big cuts from the mysterious Wayward and British institution Groove Armada only made it to 3rd and 2nd place as they were beaten to the podium by the brand new remix from the legendary Fred Falke on Ella Eyre‘s up-coming released for Virgin Records.
