Episode 45: Eglo
The 45th Episode of LAVALAVA seen residents Barrientos & DVRS take a look into the world of Eglo Records. Founded by Floating Points and Alexander Nut just 6 years ago, the record label has become a staple in bass-oriented house, electronic, funk and downtempo tracks & is not one to be afraid of experimenting with sounds and blur the boundaries between genres. Starting off at 115bpm and finishing off somewhere around 140bpm, the Label Focus takes in all of the elements of Eglo with tracks from The Abstract Eye, Krystal Klear, Arp 101 and Fatima.
The Residents Mix picked things up a notch after the mellow end of the Label Focus with Isaac Tichauer‘s ‘Changes’, flowing into our usual deep house vibes with some fresh tracks from Purple Disco Machine and Larry Heard. Some of the promos that have really been making us groove got spun out including brand new releases from Jason Mitchell, Mia Dora & We Are Tall Order. As ever, we strayed off into uncharted Tech land and rounded the mix off with some massive cuts from XXXY, Dephlex, Prince Club and Joey Beltram.
Our Top 5 was full of some really impressive material sent to our inboxes, with exclusive material from Robot 84 and Saytek making the grade. Joining them was Glasgow-based duo Those Beats with their massive piano-laced banger out on Glasgow Underground and Maya Jane Coles super-chilled new release on I/AM/ME. Making it to the Number 1 spot this week was Tim Engelhardt‘s truly outstanding remix of Alexander Koning‘s ‘Our Love Was Everything’, released on Percep-tion at the end of September.
