Phoenix Knight – Up 2 U

Up-and-coming producer Pheonix Knight will join a family that boasts the likes of Roy Davis Jr, Matthew Styles, DJ Sneak and Seven Davis Jr. with the release of his debut EP, aptly named ‘La Premier’, on Luke Solomon & Derrick Carters‘s Classic Music Company.

Hand reared on Strictly Rhythm and Henry Street joints Phoenix Knight grew up absorbing the skippy hi-hats, offbeat snares and
wailing vocals of the US East coast sound, influences that shine through in this three-track EP.  All of the tracks on this release have an intelligent and rich composition and production that belie the experience of this producer.

For us the second track ‘Up 2 U’ is by far our favourite track on this release.  Dusty drum rhythms and groove-laden melodies are laced around a catchy old school vocal to deliver a funky track stamped with a massive 90’s house feel about it.  This one is absolutely soaked in sunshine vibes and a definite must-have.
