Roscius – Villa Paolo (Zebidiah Remix)

French born, London based producer Roscius first stormed onto the scene with his innaugural release on MUTA. His ‘WMD #1’ EP  Combined live performance, vocal loops and production intricacies to ensure the debut EP delivered engrossing sounds that are as innovative as they are emotional.  Roscius returns again to MUTA at the start of September with his ‘WMD #2’ EP and it is sounding incredible.

The ‘WMD #2’ EP has 2 original cuts from this exciting producer as well as a rework and a remix from label boss Zebidiah.  The opening track ‘Villa Paolo‘ was actually recorded in Italy and sets a romantic tone revolving around dialogue between a boy and girl.  The second original, ‘Petrol‘, is built around field recordings made by Roscius while at the Tebay petrol station in the Lake District (Aye, that one that doesn’t have a McDonalds or a Burger King).

The rework combines elements from both originals and has an added Eastern flair thanks to a heavy dose of Arabic guitar.  For us though, the Zebidiah rework of ‘Villa Paolo‘ is a gorgeous deep gem of a track.  The resonant chords and murmered vocals float along the watery sounds, delicate bassline and squelching synths. A real late night pensive vibe.

This is genuinely one of the most unique and evocative electronic albums we’ve listened to this year.  Few other purchases you’ll make this year will provide this kind of audio journey.  You can buy it for yourself when it drops on the 4th September.
