Spirit Catcher – Superimposed

Belgian duo Jean Vanesse and Thomas Sohet aka Spirit Catcher have been in the game for over a decade now delivering the goods for labels like Silver Network, 2020Vision, Pets Recordings, Systematic and Noir Music.

Spiritcatcher’s output on 2020Vision back in the mid noughties was a quintessential part of the new wave of electronic sounds that were taking over from the dominant Tribal House sound at the time. Having had their finger on the pulse for every releases since then, Jean & Thomas smash it yet again on their up-coming release on Audiojack‘s Gruuv imprint.

The 5-track ‘Superimposed’ EP has everything right about it. Both original cuts from Spirit Catcher have smooth melodics paired alongside meandering electronic synths and percs to create an energy and drive that is somewhat unexpected from an otherwise deep groove. The remixes from Borrowed Identity, Kindimmer and the label owners themselves all carry a a different kind of structure and vibe, both from the originals and from each other, which really sets this EP out from the crowd.

Here at Lava Lava we’re just obsessed with the title cut ‘Superimposed’.  The percussion of the track flows perfectly beside the progression of the staccato synth hooks, the sweeping atmospherics and funk-infused bass licks.  One of our favourite things about this one is it’s diversity when it comes to mixing, possessing both a sense of depth and energy it can fit comfortably in any kind of set.

Believe the hype on this one. Get a copy of Spirit Catcher’s ‘Superimposed’ EP when it’s released on Gruuv on the 27th April.
