Release: High Street EP

Label: Deja Vu Traxx

Date: 24/02/2016

Melbourne’s rising star Kid Only releases his 2-track High Street EP on the newly-founded Deja Vu Traxx imprint this February.  The third release for the label operating out of Hull marks a shift in gear for them as Kid Only brings some big warehouse-ready tracks to the table.

Launched at the tail end of 2016, Deja Vu Traxx was the next natural step for the clubbing events brand that has been bringing some of the worlds most well-renowned DJ’s to Hull.  Established back in 1992, over the years Deja Vu has been at the pinnacle of the city’s clubbing scene and hosted the likes of wAFF, Jamie Jones, Todd Terry and Darius Syrossian.

Three years since his first release, Kid Only has made a continuous evolution of his output whilst retaining a unique club-ready sound.  With previous cuts on Criminal Hype, Pogo and Waxx Traxx all drawing on different genres, Kid Only looks to the old school for his inspiration on his latest release.  Few manage to successfully reference multiple genres within a single EP, but Kid Only manages it with aplomb.

On the premiere, ‘Rush’ wastes no time in setting up a big club sound.  Hypnotic atmospherics and punchy percussion lead into a breakdown with a stripped back classic garage drumline.  Bass stabs weave in and out of the pounding kicks while muffled echoing vocals give it that 3am warehouse feel.

Although Kid Only’s High Street EP only contains two tracks, there’s definitely enough kick drum to make even the most demanding raver take a step back.  Set for release on Deja Vu Traxx at the end of February, this is one for the peak time hours.
