The rising Belfast duo Schmutz are set to make their debut on FINA’s sub-label FINA WHITE this April with their ‘No Reason’ EP.
Schmutz is the DJ/production and promotion outfit of Conor MacParland and Kristian Woods. Based in Belfast, the duo first became known for their pioneering parties under the same name – hosting the likes of Hunee, Midland, Leon Vynehall, John Talabot and Gerd
After a Boiler Room performance cemented their status as a duo of real calibre, Gerd snapped up the duo’s first 12 inch EP, ‘Slaned’, for release on his 4LUX label, and the duo have since released on Berlin-based Dirt Crew recordings, Omni Disc and Extended Play.
Their debut for FINA’s tougher cousin FINA WHITE is as confident and diverse as the DJ sets with which they made their name. Opener ‘Two Seconds’ is a heavy techno cut defined by earthy bass stabs and a razor sharp synth arrangement that chews its way through the gloom. Title track ‘No Reason’ veers into more melodic, housier territory, a bright piano and hushed vocal sample beautifully intertwining to create a hypnotic groove, while final cut ‘Spides’’s slow-burning acid line subtly burns just below the surface of a driving techno arrangement.
Having been released on vinyl on the 14th of March, the wait for a digital version is only 2 weeks long.
