Date: 21/3/2016

The Amsterdam-based duo of Harm Coolen and Merijn Schotte Albers, aka WEVAL, made their debut at the end of 2013 with their ‘Half Age’ EP on Atomisation.  Their debut gained wide acclaim for it’s painfully intimate & surprisingly kinetic electronic collection of slow-burning emotive tracks.  Just under a year later the pair made their mark on the hugely influential German label Kompakt with two incredible EP’s.  Now the duo are set to make a return to Kompakt with their self-titled LP in June, with one of the singles released this week.

WEVAL have been constantly developing as artists since their inception, playing numerous festivals including DGTL, Reeperbahn, Iceland Airwaves & Piknic Electronik and racking up releases on the likes of Balance, KNM and Needwant. The forthcoming debut long-play is not a mere collection of tracks, but a complete listening experience with organic flow, emotional heft and a narrative thread.

‘I Don’t Need It’ is a solid statement of what is to come in June.  Slow, churning occassionally sharp & crisp waves of bass-focussed synths work their way along an off-beat jazz styled drum line, playing with the dazed chords and warped vocals to create a gorgeously rich, layered electronic track.  Make no mistake, this is nothing short of an exceptionally emotive and stunning track.
