Episode 57: Cocoon / Tian Karl

Episode 57 of LAVA LAVA seen residents Barrientos & DVRS take a look in at the world of Cocoon Recordings. Since it’s inception in 2002 by Sven Vath Cocoon has become one of Europe’s, if not the worlds, leading techno record labels. Despite the labels reputation, Cocoon has always stuck to its philosophy of enabling up-and-coming producers to release their music to a global audience. Starting from the first release, the boys played out some of their favourite tracks from Cocoons highly impressive back-catalogue from producers like Legowelt, Matt Tolfrey, Pig & Dan and wAFF.

Following up from the techno-heavy focus, the Residents played out some slow summer vibes that were sent through including HNNY, Black Loops and Hollis Parker.  The remixes were few and far between this week, though the one’s that were played out were absolute belters; Leon‘s trippy disco remix of Weedyman, Claptone‘s huge remix of Gregory Porter and, our absolute favourite, the TCTS remix of Jessie Ware‘s Champagne Kisses.

Taking control for the last half hour in an impressive Guest Mix is London‘s rising star Tian Karl. Delivering some truly huge dancefloor vibes in the mix, Tian really nails it on the 4th instalment of the Guest Mix series.
