The Dutch duo Weval had an unbelievable 2016.  Their debut album for Kompakt is still receiving major plaudits for it’s sound and they have been touring Europe and the USA since.  Dropping in February is the long awaited remix package.

Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte Albers met through working in the film industry in 2010, where they found out they shared a love of creating electronic music.  Over the next three years they honed their skills before dropping their debut EP for the Berlin/Amsterdam-based imprint Atomnation.

The unique sound, a blend between their backgrounds in jazz, trip-hop and house, quickly drew the attention of one of Germany’s biggest imprints; Kompakt.  After a string of excellent EP’s  over the years, their self-titled 2016 debut album has gone on to receive acclaim from artists such as Dixon, Michael Mayer and Danny Daze.

The Weval Remix EP features three re-works from Italian duo Margot, Israeli masterminds Red Axes and the Danish club don Kaspar Bjorke.  Each remix brings out different elements of the original tracks, creating enticing club tracks that retain the intimate feeling of the originals.

Kaspar Bjorke’s slow burning remix of You’re Mine doesn’t rush into it’s club-focussed sound.  Building slowly in from the start with some of the original percussion and a stirring vocal whisper lead into a powerful breakdown.  Sweeping synths create a warm ambiance to the track that compliments the driving beats while the echoing distorted vocal sample further adds to the rich sounds.

Set for release on Kompakt as a limited run of vinyl on the 17th of February as well as online, the Weval remix package is a must-have for anyone looking for that contemplative electronic sound.
