STREAM: Landside EP Part 1

Milan-based duo Hunter/Game have just recently announced the 4th release on their own imprint; Just This.  Barely a year old, the newly founded record label has already been turning heads with it’s sublime Deep sounds from artists such as Ripperton, Primal, Chymera and Locked Groove.  The latest release will see the label founders team up on a brand new collab called Landside with Icelandic band Kúra for a 2-part EP.

The ‘Landside’ Part 1 EP features two originals from the pan-European duo as well as two incredible remixes from two of the most talked about artists from Britain; Max Cooper and Benjamin Damage.  It’s a pretty impossible task to try and describe the output from the collab, but if you forced us to then we’d say it’s a blend between Âme, Mano Le Tough and FKA Twigs.

Kicking off in dramatic form with ‘Before The Storm‘, Landside set the tone with a moody and brooding groove.  The lyrics from Kura lie perfectly over the off-beat percussion and meandering bass to give a truly tangible atmosphere.  Next up, the second original track ‘Still There‘ sets a different kind of tone with sharp stabbing synths and a more wobbling bassline.  Yet again, the vocals are a highlight to the track, especially in the breakdown as the other elements fade to nothing before a stunning drop.

Benjamin Damage‘s remix of ‘Before The Storm’ sets a completely different vibe from the rest of the EP, something a lot more similair to his output on 50 Weapons.  The vocals from Kura float hauntingly in the background while the fast-paced techno elements give the track a peak-time edge.  Our favourite of the 4 tracks has to be the mind-blowing Max Cooper remix.  The sweeping bass and chord progression pair nicely with the percussion to give the track a real drive, while the looped vocals of lead singer Fanney Ósk lend a sumptiously deep tone to the whole track.

With still more to come from this collab through the 2nd part of their debut EP, which also includes remixes from Avitism and Extrawelt, this is something that is really exciting us here at Lava Lava.  You can pick up a copy of ‘Landside Part 1’ when it drops on Just This on the 28th August, and Part 2 when it’s released on the 11th of September.
