STREAM: Paul Nazca – Kill The Hype EP – A-Traction

France-based artist Paul Nazca has been releasing material since the turn of the century via imprints like Ellen Alien’s BPitch, Laurent Garnier’s F Communications and Skryptom.  Later this April will see Nazca return to the Dijon-based A-Traction imprint.  After over 30 releases, this seminal French label celebrates it’s 15th birthday in style with a feast of French production on Nazca’s ‘Kill The Hype’ EP.

Title cut ‘Kill The Hype’  sees Nazca deliver an ever-unfolding slice of Techno led by arpeggio synth hooks, tension building strings lines and punchy rhythms.  The sporadic bass stabs bubbling in the background match perfectly with the brooding vocal cuts and murmurs to give a real moody edge to the cut.

Traum Schallplatten’s Oniris turns in his take on ‘Kill The Hype’ to follow, dubbing out the rhythm and bass aspects to a more reduced state while introducing gradually evolving sweeps.  The hypnotic meandering melody, which is now becoming Oniris’ trademark, shakes things up a little and gives the remix a huge burst of energy.

Closing the package is a second original from Nazca entitled ‘Xyon’.  A bit more ‘5am warehouse rave’ than the title cut, with stuttering bass sequences, howling synth drones and blossoming drum lines to round off the release on a dark and hypnotic tip.

Paul Nazca’s ‘Kill The Hype’ EP is a solid representation of the French techno scene out;  loud, relentless and full of spirit.  Make sure you check this one out when it drops on A-Traction Records on 27th April.
