STREAM: Steve Lawler – Call of the Cuckoo EP

This March will see the hugely influential Leftroom imprint offer up ‘Call Of The Cuckoo’ EP, a two-tracker release from none other than Steve Lawler.  Having been at the top of his game for close to two decades now, there’s no-one more qualified to deliver the goods on a punchy tech house EP.

You may be more acquainted with his own ViVA Music imprint which, since it’s founding in 2006, has welcomed many of today’s headliners and trendsetters onto it’s roster.  To date Steve retains an impressively busy touring and release schedule, with his ViVa Warriors brand spanning the globe and regular output coming via leading imprints in the industry like Hot Creations.  Following up the success with his ‘House Record’ EP in 2014 on HC here he adds another driving force to his affiliations, namely Leftroom.

Title cut ‘Call Of The Cuckoo’ opens up the two tracker and in typical Lawler fashion we’re treated to a huge stack of rugged bass tones and penetrative, unfolding drum programming alongside cleverly chopped vocals. The end result is an infectious dance floor cut as you’d expect from such a seasoned producer.

Our pick of the two however resides on the flip side.  ‘Can’t Stop’ focusses squarely on heavily swung drum grooves and chuggy bass sequences to give the track a real power and energy.  The wandering arpeggio licks layered on top of things round things off on a raw, up-tempo tip.

We highly recommed you get your hands on Steve Lawler’s ‘Call Of The Cuckoo’ EP when it drops on Leftroom on 2nd March (Vinyl) and 16th March (Digital).
