Episode 56: Toolroom / Nativ

For Episode 56, LAVALAVA residents Barrientos & DVRS turned their attention towards one of the UK’s most dependable outlets for tech house; Toolroom.  Since it’s founding by the now well-renowned DJ/producer Mark Knight & his brother Stuart in 2003, Toolroom has pretty much soundtracked the journey that modern house music has taken over the past 12 years.  Playing out this journey over a 35 minute Label Focus was no mean feat.  Starting from the very beginning the residents played out some of the absolutely unforgettable tracks from the Toolroom back catalogue as well as some modern classics, including cuts from Jamestown, Funkagenda, Todd Terry, Doorly & Vanilla Ace.

It didn’t take long for the Residents Mix to follow suit after kicking off with a couple of mellow cuts and grooves from Ashworth, TCTS and Joe R Lewis.  The most impressive gems found in the LAVA LAVA  mailboxes before Epsidoe 56 were played out including some new favourites from Joe Le Bon, Brooklyn Is Burning, Copy Paste Soul & Rene Amesz.  Rounding off the Residents Mix was the new and breathtaking KiNK remix of Hackman‘s forthcoming track ‘Semibreves’.

Rounding off the show is Glasgow’s rising star of the UK Funk scene, Nativ. As it’s said, 3 is the magic number and Nativ provides some of his own dark and dubby magic on this excellent takeover in the 3rd of our Guest Mix series.
